Special Projects

EPIC frequently runs special projects which sometimes become core projects. They often arise from community needs and/or funding partner requests and we frequently partner with other community organizations in the implementation of them.

We are excited about our two newest projects:

ADAPT :: 2024

Access & Development of Affiliated Peer Tutoring

EPIC was contacted in August 2024 by The Joyce Family Foundation with a query about EPIC’s programs and funding needs. Follow-up discussion and an EPIC funding application to the Joyce Family Foundation resulted in October approval of a 5-year EPIC project called ADAPT which aims to ensure program access for marginalized youth who live far from Youth Peer sites and spawn 4 new peer tutoring sites administered by Youth Peer partner organizations assisted by EPIC. Two of the new sites were operational by mid-November 2024 and the other two are expected to start soon after.

MORE COMING SOON ABOUT THESE NEW YOUTH PEER SITES!

PEP :: 2024

Parents Encouraging Parents Group

In October 2024, EPIC started a new weekly program for young parents with school-aged kids who are considered socially and academically at high risk.

PEP (Parents Encouraging Parents) meets at the Youth Peer Centre on Thursday nights and is facilitated by Delores Feltmate, EPIC’s excellent former Youth Peer Program Director. Taking up where our former Parents PEACE program left off, PEP sessions are focused on empowerment of caregivers to resolve personal parenting challenges and become more resilient parents through group insights and encouragement.
